With the 2013 departure of Kmart from their 92,000 square foot space at River Road Plaza the task for MK Property Services, LLC was to seek out replacement tenants for the empty and dated Kmart box. Using non-traditional marketing strategies broker Marielle De La Torre and broker/owner Mike Kirkland negotiated a deal with Tractor Supply Co. which took just under one-half of the vacant space. The first stage of re-developing the Kmart box began and MK Property Services, LLC and their Landlord Client completed construction for TSC in mid 2014. With a national anchor in place leasing the remaining half of the vacant space fell into place and soon Planet Fitness, Auto Zone, brokered by Marielle De La Torre and Mike Kirkland, and Dollar Tree, brokered by Lara Pharmer and Mike Kirkland, entered the center bringing a bigger national spot light to River Road Plaza. Construction, including a new exterior facade, was completed for all new tenants in early 2017. MK Property Services, LLC, working with several cooperating brokers, successfully brokered and re-tenanted the Kmart box during a recovering economy in a relatively short amount of time by using non-traditional marketing strategies and diligent brokerage efforts. River Road Plaza is now considered a dominant and vibrant retail center in the north Puyallup, WA market.
